Fun at the Farm

Fawn Joel saw on our way to the farm. We were only about 1/2 mile from our destination, and on a quiet gravel road, so we stopped the truck and camper right there, I got my rain boots, and carefully walked towards the little guy to get his picture. I was afraid to get too close, in case the mama was nearby.
Girl cousins, happy to be together again

A summer weekend at the farm isn't complete unless some marshmallows are roasted.

school fun

Rebecca was in a "wax museum" at school, where the students had to research someone who'd contributed something important to America, then dress like that person and pose for 10 minutes at a time while people came around to view them. Rebecca was Elizabeth Blackwell, the first woman doctor.  I didn't get many pictures of her because the gym was so dark...mood lighting, apparently.
The same afternoon was Clayton's Nanny Goat Play. He was a tree, as was Joel before him. Rebecca had been Fanny Goat when she performed in this very same production back when she was in first grade.

Here kitty, kitty

Just realized I don't have a single new picture of either of my boys.  I'll have to remedy that soon.  For now though:
Fiona update
She's still here.

And it's becoming green around here, finally!  These pictures were taken on my birthday.  Proof that the weather CAN behave on May 16.  I was beginning to wonder.

Sunday drive

John got the Thunderbird out and we took it for a spin.
It's a year younger than I am...which means it's 22, because you're only as old as you feel.

boating

One of John's brothers currently has use of a nice speedboat/fishing boat. We took it for a spin this weekend.
We went fast. We got splashed.
There is limited seating and since all my boys (all three of them :) got to ride in it last weekend, Doug, Rebecca, and I got this ride.
Doug and Rebecca fished. We adults did not because we don't have fishing licenses. I had no sooner put my camera away, commenting that I would take it out again if the kids ever caught a fish, and Doug pulled in this sunfish.

Doug told his dad later that he's going to be a professional fisherman when he grows up.

Wheee!

Track and field day

Rebecca's class and all the other fifth grade classes in the district met at the high school for a track and field day. I was hearing about it for days in advance, the events she was competing in, how the practices were going, how nervous she was....so on the day of I had to go see her there. Besides, she flat-out ordered me to come: "Mom, you have to come see me! I've worked so hard on this."
I got there just in time to see her run the 100-meter dash, in which she got second place in her heat (I think it's called a heat, anyway...not real good with sports jargon)
We sat in the bleachers for awhile and waited for her next event, the cross-country race. It might have been 1/2 a mile or so, just winding around the high school property.

Every so often the announcer would call out the names of the top-10 individuals in each event. Rebecca got fourth place out of all the fifth grade girls in hurdles!

Can't believe I have an athletic girl because that is SO not me...but I wouldn't change it either.

quilts

I recently got the bug to make a quilt. Someday I'd love to try to make something like this one here, but since it's my first one I went with a simpler pattern.
Mom helped me cut all the fabric into 4-inch strips

Then we sewed the strips together in groups of three, like so...(Mom was a HUGE help!)

and cut across those in 4-inch strips.

The pattern is called Nine Patch, and so far I have three rows of nine blocks completely sewn together. Only seven rows of nine left to go...I'm making a king-size quilt. My motto went something like, "The bigger the better!" or "Go big or go home!"
What? Everyone makes a king-size quilt for their first project, right?

we're ready

The calendar says it's Spring 'round these parts.

The weather tells a different story.

Say cheese

As long as they're all three together and fairly cooperative, I like to get a group shot.
One can never have too many.

Saturday evening's entertainment

See, the next-door neighbor to Mom and Dad had this shopping cart in their yard. Lazy college students, one would imagine, not wanting to carry bags of groceries home...and then too lazy to return the cart when they were through.
On an earlier walk to the park, Dad had noticed two more carts. So after supper we all headed out on our good-deed mission: Return of the Shopping Carts.

Clayton does the one-two punch

Joel is a trapeze artist

and Rebecca is...
I'm just really not sure what she's doing.
